Who we are and our privacy policy

Learning Life From Scratch is a faith-centered website sharing practical life skills, personal reflections, and resources for people navigating new beginnings.

The website is operated by Ashley Smith DBA Learning Life From Scratch.

Our website address is: https://learninglifefromscratch.com

This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information in connection with our website, associated signup pages, email communications, and free digital resources.

For questions about this policy or your personal information, contact:

contact@learninglifefromscratch.com

Information you provide to us

Email signups and resource requests. When you sign up for our emails or request a free resource, we collect your email address and any name you provide through the signup form. We use this information to deliver the requested resource and send the communications described when you subscribe.

Contact messages. When you contact us by email or through a contact form, we receive the information you submit, such as your name, email address, message, and any attachments. We use that information to respond and manage the correspondence.

Please share only information needed for your request. Do not send passwords, Social Security numbers, payment-card details, private medical records, or unnecessary personal information about children or other people.

Email subscriptions and free-checklist delivery

We use MailerLite to manage email subscriptions, signup pages, and automated resource-delivery emails.

Our checklist signup uses double opt-in. New subscribers are asked to confirm their email address before receiving the subscription communications. Subscription records can include the information entered into the form and records associated with signup and confirmation.

Our emails may include practical tips, faith-filled encouragement, new content, and information about Learning Life From Scratch resources, as described on the signup form.

You can stop receiving marketing emails by selecting Unsubscribe in an email or contacting contact@learninglifefromscratch.com. Unsubscribing stops marketing delivery; it is not the same as requesting deletion of all information associated with your subscription.

Email engagement information

We use MailerLite’s reporting features to understand email delivery and engagement. With open tracking enabled, an email can contain a small tracking image that reports when it loads. Email links can also record clicks. These reports help us understand which resources readers use and identify delivery problems.

Tracking information may include timestamps, IP addresses, and browser or email-client information. An image loading is not necessarily proof that a person read the message.

Comments

When visitors leave comments, we collect the information shown in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent information to help detect spam.

Approved comments, the commenter’s displayed name, and any associated profile image may be publicly visible. Please do not include information in a comment that you do not want other visitors to read.

If Gravatar is enabled, an email-derived hash may be sent to Gravatar to check for an associated profile image. The service’s privacy information is available at: https://automatic.com/privacy/

Media and downloadable resources

Our checklists, workbooks, and journals are intended for personal use. We do not ask you to return completed worksheets in order to receive the free checklist.

Keep completed documents containing financial, health, family, or other private information in a secure location. If you choose to email a completed document to us, its contents become information you have submitted through that correspondence.

Cookies, technical information, and spam protection

Our website and the services used to operate it can process technical information needed to deliver pages, maintain security, and diagnose problems. This can include IP addresses, browser and device information, request times, and the pages or resources requested.

Cookies are small files stored by a browser. The WordPress features described below apply only when those features are used.

If you leave a comment, you may be offered the option to save your name, email address, and website in cookies for future comments. In the default WordPress configuration described in its suggested text, those cookies last for one year.

For users who visit a WordPress login page or sign in, WordPress uses cookies to check browser support, maintain login sessions, and remember display preferences. The default periods described in the supplied template are two days for login cookies, one year for display preferences, and two weeks when “Remember Me” is selected. Logging out removes the login cookies.

An editor who edits or publishes an article may receive an additional cookie identifying the edited post. The supplied WordPress template describes that cookie as expiring after one day.

These account and editing cookies do not mean that ordinary readers must register or log in to read the blog.

Signup spam protection

Our MailerLite landing-page signup uses Google reCAPTCHA to help distinguish genuine submissions from automated activity. Google documents that reCAPTCHA sets a cookie for its risk analysis.

Additional analytics or advertising tools

You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect the operation of website or signup features.

Where our pages contain embedded content from another service, that provider may receive technical information when the content loads or is used. Its collection practices can depend on the embed’s settings and whether you are signed into that provider.

Our pages and emails may also link to external websites. Following an external link takes you to a service whose privacy practices are described by its own policy.

A link to another website is different from embedded content: embedded content can involve an outside provider while you are still viewing our page.

Who we share your information with

We use service providers to operate the website and communicate with readers. Information is provided to or processed by those services as needed for their role.

For our current setup, these include:

ServiceRole
BluehostHosting and supporting the website.
Titan emailHandling correspondence sent to and from our business email address.
MailerLiteManaging subscriptions, signup pages, email delivery, resource links, and email reports.
Google reCAPTCHAHelping protect the signup form against automated submissions.

MailerLite describes its processing of subscriber information on behalf of its customers in its privacy policy. Its policy does not replace this explanation of our own practices.

We may also disclose information when required by applicable law or when reasonably necessary to address fraud, security incidents, or legal claims.

How long we retain your information

We retain personal information according to why it was collected, whether it is still needed to provide the requested service, and any applicable legal, security, or recordkeeping requirements.

Subscriber information is used to manage the email relationship. After an unsubscribe request, a record of the address and its unsubscribed status may remain so that we can respect the choice not to receive marketing emails. MailerLite distinguishes unsubscribing from deleting or permanently forgetting a subscriber.

Contact messages are retained as needed to respond, manage any continuing correspondence, and address relevant recordkeeping or security needs.

Your choices and privacy requests

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link provided in an email.

You can also contact contact@learninglifefromscratch.com to ask about information we hold about you or request its correction or deletion. We may need reasonable information to verify that a request concerns your own data. Please do not send identification documents unless we explain why they are needed and provide an appropriate way to submit them.

Requests will be considered under the laws applicable to the business and the request. Some information may need to be retained for legal, security, or other permitted purposes.

Where information is processed and how it is protected

Information is processed through the services used to operate the website, forms, and email communications. Service providers may process information in countries other than where a reader lives.

No website, email system, or storage method can guarantee complete security.

Children’s information

Learning Life From Scratch is intended for adult readers, including parents and caregivers. Please do not use our forms or emails to submit unnecessary identifying information about children.

If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our services, contact contact@learninglifefromscratch.com so that we can review the situation and take appropriate action.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our practices change and revise the date at the top. Where applicable law requires additional notice or permission for a change, we will address that requirement before applying the change.
